I just went to Jamaica for my honeymoon. We actually met a gay couple there that was staying at our resort Riu Ocho Rios (all-inclusive).



They were really cool but they did say that they were getting crap from the locals because they were gay. So if you do go, expect it. They said that when people came up to them, they would just tell them they were "business partners".



As sad as it sounds, I would suggest that you limit your PDA. Stay on the resort as much as you can and if you do leave, just be "friends" so you won't have any problems.

*I understand people should respect their culture but on the other hand, they LIVE off of tourist (unlike middle-east countries). If a gay couple want to go, let them go at their own risk. I'm sure they would understand the culture won't except them and to be prepared for some slurs.

Hedo2 is laid back and I doubt you will have any issues there but IMO an all inclusive resort does not really give you a feel for what Jamaica offers.



As others said, be sure to keep away from PDA's (no holding hands, kissing and such) when you leave your hotel/resort.

PLEASE RECONSIDER bringing your partner on this trip and just enjoy it for yourself because i keep hearing about endless gays going to jamaica and never coming back (beacuse they are dead). I dont know u but i dont want you to die either please nuh dweet

Jamaica is NOT gay friendly. Less towards females than males but not great towards either.



Not sure if you heard of the gay people in the US boycotting Jamaica or not, a pretty stupid thing punishing businesses that have nothing to do with governmetn policy but it was a big news thing 6 or 8 months back.



I'm sure some will have angry comments towards Jamaica, Jamaicans are awesome people, it's just not something that's cool in their culture. It's a little more aggressive than some other cultures but Italians, Mexicans have strong family values and aren't really gay friendly either, nothing to get mad about, if you want to go just as they say when in Rome. Don't do PDA and things like that.

Generally speaking, Hedo 2 and the spanish resorts may have less of a problem with your being gay.



Personally? I think that a gay couple even considering coming to Jamaica for a honeymoon is rather disrespectful of local culture. There are certain things i would NEVER do if vacationing in the middle east and i suggest that you view Jamaica in a similar light.



As a cultural rule: JAMAICANS DO NOT like gays. On one hand, I do not CONDONE violence against gays, but on the other hand, i think Jamaicans have a right to have thier culture respected. You call it 'homophobia', while most jamaicans call it a 'cultural and moral standard'. The more Jamaicans feel disrespected? The angrier they will get on this issue.

Really? That's an outright lie. There have been MANY cases of gays being beaten and harrassed, but NOT endless cases of that and not 'endless' deaths or dissappearances either. Gay people walk around EVERY parish of Jamaica, EVERY day.

I've never heard of Hedonism being gay friendly. The only thing I can tell you about the place is that it H2 is newer than Hedonism, there's a small nude area & pool, and the beach is so so. Travel Advisor might give you some better insight.

Jamaica is a wonderful place to visit, its like paradise. And yes Jamaica is extremely homophobic. However, there are lots of guys here including Lesbians. But they don't out right in public (some do). There are guy clubs here but very underground. If you want to enjoy Jamaica for the beauty and culture rent a villa from a private owner and make sure the owner is ok with your life style.

It is very true that its very dangerous for homos to show PDA so just keep it to yourself act responsively and respect the Jamaican culture and you will visit Jamaica time and time again.

Ok so I am only 13 and I am in america and have been living here for 5 years, but No there are no resorts down there for gays and I think you should respect their culture, and If I lived down there I wouldn't want your friends down there in because I just think thats its plain nasty , disgusting ,& wrong.
