Many people might think that Kingston,Jamaica was founded as a capital, yet it wasn't,because Port Royal was the original Jamaican financial capital, until the earthquake of sixteen ninety two destroyed Port Royal, and Kingston was then to be the new capital, with a title,or name that was dedicated to the King of Great Britain .

It was named for the King of Spain when Columbus took the island from the natives...

Kings-town...Kings-ton....though it was not the capitol to start with, Port Royal was until it sunk in a earthquake, then it was Spanish Town, then eventually Kingston.
